FAQ
Questions, answered straight
Grouped roughly by when they come up. If yours is not here, ask.
Quoting and booking
- How far ahead should I book?
- As early as you can. Month-end and Friday dates go first, and if your building needs a booked lift slot you are competing with every other resident for the same windows.
- Do you charge for a survey?
- No. It is how we find out what the street and the building will actually allow, which is the basis of a quote that holds.
- Why not price it over the phone?
- Because access in London varies far more than contents do. A quote that ignores the access gets corrected on the morning, when you have no alternative.
- What if my completion moves?
- Tell us as soon as you know. We will do what we can to hold the crew. If a lift slot was booked, that may need rebooking too.
Streets, charges and parking
- Who arranges a bay suspension?
- We do, with the relevant borough. The application needs lead time, which is why a confirmed date early is worth more than almost anything else you can give us.
- Are some squares privately managed?
- Yes, particularly in West London. A private garden square is a separate application from a council bay suspension, with its own rules and its own timescale. We establish which applies.
- Can a removal lorry use my underground car park?
- Usually not. London car park height limits are commonly below what a removal vehicle needs, so the load runs from a surface bay and the carry is longer than the building suggests.
- What about loading-bay time limits?
- They are camera-enforced in the West End and the City, and overrunning generates penalties. We build the schedule around the limit rather than hoping.
On the day
- Will you dismantle furniture?
- Yes — beds, wardrobes, flat-pack and garden furniture, and reassembly at the other end. Anything fitted, plumbed or wired in needs a trade, which we flag at the survey.
- Will you take a window out?
- Not from a listed building — altering protected fabric without consent is a criminal offence. In an unlisted property it is occasionally possible with the owner’s agreement and a specialist. Usually the honest answer is that the item does not go.
- What will you not carry?
- Anything hazardous — fuels, gas bottles, solvents. Plants and perishables we advise on. Pianos and safes are movable but must be declared in advance.
- What if something is damaged?
- Tell us on the day if you can. We carry goods in transit and liability cover, explained before you book. The claims process and its limits are in your booking contract.
