North London is where the city climbs. Highgate, Muswell Hill, Crouch End, Hampstead and Alexandra Palace all sit on high ground, and the streets between them rise and fall in ways that matter to a loaded vehicle.
The stock skews large and Edwardian — family houses with three or four floors, generous rooms and lofts that have usually been converted. Further out towards Barnet and Enfield it becomes interwar semis with driveways and garages.
It is family-move territory, and family moves are where the volume gets underestimated.
Gradient, CPZs and converted lofts
The hills are the practical constraint. A tail lift needs level standing, and on the steeper streets around Highgate and Muswell Hill the nearest safe position is not necessarily outside the door. We pick it at the survey.
Almost every inner North London borough operates controlled parking. Bay suspensions are applied for on your behalf, and the application needs lead time — which is why a confirmed date matters more than people expect.
Converted lofts are near-universal in this part of London. The final flight is steeper and narrower than the ones below, and anything that went up before the conversion may well not come back down. We check the largest items against it.
Out towards Barnet, Enfield and Finchley the picture changes completely: driveways, side gates and space to work. Those are the easiest moves in the sector.
